Birdwatching / Birding Trips in the Atikokan / Quetico Ontario Area
The Quetico Park / Atikokan Ontario area offers some excellent opportunities for birdwatching trips during the summer months.
Although 219 bird species have been observed in Quetico Park, the vast majority are migratory.
Only a few species, such as the gray jay and the ruffed grouse are hardy enough to make Quetico their year 'round home.
During the summer, over 100 species of birds come to Quetico to nest.
The Park is a major breeding ground for birds of prey such as the bald eagle & osprey.
At night you can expect to hear the calls of the common loon and barred owl.
You may also encounter great blue herons, herring gulls, evening grosbeaks, ravens & red winged black birds.
Birdwatching enthusiasts are sure to record sightings of many other species of birds either throughout Quetico or in the vast surrounding wilderness.
